The Magic Fountain (Font magica de Montjuic) is a large illuminated fountain located on Montjuïc hill, in southwest Barcelona. It was designed by Carles Buigas for the 1929 Universal Exhibition with a view to providing a spectacular display and took just one year to complete. The fountain was not maintained for many years but was restored for the 1992 Olympic Games.
When the fountain is activated, it constantly changes colour and shape in a spectacular light display that is accompanied by music. The Palau Nacional in the background is also illuminated and the beauty of the display attracts crowds of visitors, particularly during the summer months.
